UW-Milwaukee Beautifies North Division HS on MLK Day

Students at UW-Milwaukee beautified North Division high school on MLK Day. AmeriCorps VISTA Nicole Glaser recruited over 90 UW-Milwaukee volunteers and 175 Milwaukee community members who painted over 50 murals at North Division High school. The group also made over 25 blankets and created 4 tables for the local shelter.

MILWAUKEE —For some people, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a day on, instead of a day off.

School was out Monday at North Division High School, but the halls and cafeteria were bustling with people stepping up to lend a hand.

"Typically it is a day off, so this is really the first time for me that I've been able to get out and do something, so it's pretty awesome," volunteer Patrick Frigge said.

Frigge is a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student volunteering with other students, community groups and businesses at a City Year service project.

The M3C Program is so vital. Where my work with one child stops, that child’s work with another volunteer must begin. All of us [Fellows] provide an uplifting service for our sites that we will never be able to fully understand. Our work has a lasting value.Hannah Lartz, M3C FellowUW-Milwaukee
